  Lobi Bateba 46cm high
Bought from Oumarou Badou in Gaoua, the centre of Pays Lobi in Burkina Faso, by Caroline Hart. Acquired October 1993

A good Lobi, made by a sculptor who was taught to carve at the school of Birifor - made for a Lobi man, when his children have children.
Although representing a grandfather the carving has no male sex. By being female the sculpture acknowledges the part played by women in the procreative process.
