Bought from Kebe Cheickna from African Arts in Accra, Ghana in December 1995 for 300.000 cedis

This was made by a sculptor who worked in the area of Kampti in Burkina Faso.
In Lobi villages around Kampti, some bateba personify returned people; men who had died within living memory and who wished to return to earth.

Exhibited at Winchester Cathedral - Sculpture and the Divine.
