African Woods: collection
  Lobi pendant 8cm high
Bought from Christie's 1996. At the auction I was told that this pendant once belonged to Josef Herman

This tiny female figure is pierced between the left arm and the torso, it is a bateba phuwe, an ordinary bateba.
Threaded to a strip of leather it was made to be worn around the neck or attached to baby’s cradle or to a xylophone.
Made near Kampti in Burkina Faso.
