African Woods: collection

  Lobi 45cm high
Bought at a Bonhams auction in March 1992

This bateba is a headpost; with a contemporary look to it. Made as an exceptional and dangerous person called ti bala. These single heads are usually planted on top of a pillar of earth, a shrine constructed in front of a house - an altar for a formidable spirit charged with safeguarding the home.
